Recharge your students for 2023! Life can be overwhelming, and many students today are on stress overload. So much to do, so much information hitting from all sides. With so much
stimulation, it’s difficult to shut our brains off. It’s like that Apple computer circle of death – the colorful rainbow that spins and spins when your computer becomes too stimulated and can’t process as fast as you want. Sometimes the connections is made, the circle goes away and work resumes. Other times the system crashes and it is necessary to reboot. It’s the same with people. Dozens of times during the day that little circle pops up into our brains, and our system crashes. When this happens to students we get behavior problems, poor performance, discontented students and a less than ideal classroom environment.

When the brain is overstimulated, our nervous systems shut down, just like that computer. This leads to anxiety, depression and panic. Students can act up or shut down. The brain and body can’t maintain anymore. That’s why it is important to give our minds time to rest and process throughout the day.
Mindfulness practices help our minds feel less overwhelmed, more focused and more compassionate - to ourselves and others. Adding self-conversance – moves us beyond mindfulness and enables us to overcome stress, anxiety and live healthier, kinder, more self-compassionate lives.
Use this resource to work with students towards mindfulness. Discuss the topics, model the prompts and activities and and then journal away.
